Keeping Your Ride Cool, Safe, and Reliable
Summer is the best season to get out and ride, but hot weather calls for a little extra attention when it comes to your lithium-ion battery. High ambient temperatures, especially when combined with direct sunlight, can affect your battery’s health, range, and overall safety.
To help you get the most out of your rides safely this season, our technical team has gathered these straightforward best practices for caring for your battery in the summer heat.

Storage & Temperature Management
- Avoid Direct Sunlight: Try not to leave your bike or battery parked in direct sunlight for extended periods. Dark battery casings quickly absorb radiant heat, pushing internal temperatures far higher than the outside air.
- Mind the Temperature Limits: Whenever possible, store your battery in a dry, temperature-controlled environment. The ideal storage range is between 50°F and 77°F (10°C to 25°C). Please avoid storing your battery in places that regularly exceed 104°F (40°C), such as unventilated garages, outdoor sheds, or the trunk of a hot car.
- Store on Safe Surfaces: When your battery is off the bike, set it on a flat, solid, non-flammable surface, such as concrete, stone, or tile. Please keep it clear of loose fabrics or direct heat sources.
Smart Charging Practices
- Let It Cool Down First: After a long ride on a warm day, we recommend letting your battery rest for 30 to 45 minutes to cool down before plugging it into the charger. Charging a battery while it is still warm adds unnecessary heat stress to the cells.
- Charge in a Cool, Well-Ventilated Space: Always charge indoors or in a well-shaded, ventilated area. Avoid charging under direct sunlight, and never cover the battery or charger with towels, bags, or blankets while charging.
- Use Original Equipment Only: Please stick to the official charger supplied with your bike or an authorized replacement. Uncertified third-party chargers may deliver inconsistent voltage, which can cause severe thermal issues.
- Unplug When Full: Disconnect the charger once the indicator light shows a full charge. It is best practice not to leave your battery plugged into the wall continuously for days at a time.
Riding & Handling Tips
- Ease Up During Peak Heat: If you are riding in temperatures above 95°F (35°C), try to avoid running full power or max assist up long, steep hills for extended periods. Giving your motor and battery brief cool-down breaks helps prevent heat buildup.
- Inspect After Any Impact: If your battery ever takes a hard drop or impact, stop using it right away. Take a moment to inspect the casing for cracks, denting, swelling, or unusual odors before putting it back on the bike.
- Avoid Water Submersion: Our batteries are designed to handle normal summer rain showers, but they should never be submerged in water or cleaned with high-pressure power washers.
What to Do If You Notice Unusual Behavior
If your battery ever feels hot to the touch while sitting idle, begins to swell, emits an unusual odor, makes abnormal sounds, or shows any signs of smoke:
- Stop charging or using the e-bike immediately.
- If it is safe to do so, move away from the battery or bike and keep people and flammable materials away from the area.
- Do not attempt to open, repair, disassemble, or modify the battery yourself.
- Reach out to our Customer Support Team or your authorized local dealer immediately.
If there is smoke, fire, or an immediate safety emergency, move to a safe location and contact the appropriate local emergency services.
